Home is the Key to a Better Future

Habitat for Humanity Joining At Home to Raise Funds for Affordable Housing throughout April

Nearly 19 million U.S. households spend more than half of their paychecks on housing costs, creating a burden that often requires families to make difficult choices between their housing, healthcare, education and transportation. Habitat for Humanity is doing something about it with the support of five major brand partners, including At Home, the Home Décor Superstore, that will be raising awareness and funds for affordable housing through the third annual Home is the Key campaign during the month of April.

Did you know?

    • One in six families in the U.S. pay half or more of their income on their rent or mortgage, often forcing them to choose between paying for housing and other vital needs like nutritious food, reliable transportation and life-saving medicine.
    • Virtually nowhere in the U.S. can a full-time employee earning minimum wage afford a one-bedroom apartment.
    • Even two such jobs won’t rent a two-bedroom apartment in 34 states and the District of Columbia.
    • Studies have shown a strong connection between housing quality and overall health, especially children’s health.
    • Children of homeowners are more likely to succeed in school and make fewer visits to the emergency room for routine health problems.
  • Affordable housing can improve health outcomes by freeing up family resources for nutritious food and health care expenditures.

On Thursday, April 4, Habitat for Humanity’s Director of Cause Marketing and Workplace Giving Allison Green and “At Home” Chief Marketing Officer Ashley Sheetz are available to discuss the Home is the Key Campaign and how At Home will engage their customers to raise funds for Habitat.
