Bill Driscoll: December 6, 2016

Bill Driscoll

District President of Accountemps

While applying to jobs might be the last thing on our minds during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, this truly is a great time to keep interviewing. Job candidates have long been urged to put their best foot forward when applying for open positions. It might be simple advice, yet many job hopefuls fail to heed it. In an Accountemps survey, 33 percent of CFOs said the most common mistake people make in application materials is failing to customize them for the position; 24 percent of executives said typos or poor grammar are the most frequent blunders. The biggest slipup during the interview is not knowing about the organization.

In this interview, Bill Driscoll will share the eight biggest job search mistakes and how to overcome them and ace your next job interview. He’ll also discuss the importance of making a good impression (wow factor!) and what any job applicant should have in their arsenal.

Some of Bill’s tips:

  • Do your homework – study up on the organization with which you’re interviewing. Incorporate what you learn into your resume and interview responses to make the connection between what the company needs and what you offer.
  • Remember: Grammar counts! Even one or two resume typos can eliminate a candidate from consideration. Review your materials thoroughly, and ask a confidant to read them too.
  • Go offline – Look for other ways to find openings: Attend industry events, join professional associations and ask your current contacts for introductions to new ones.
