Summer is here! If you’re ready to spend your days and nights at the beach, the park, hosting backyard BBQs or guests at home, you need to ensure you are fully prepared to enjoy activities with family and friends free from common summer pests. Now, there is a science-backed tool to help!

SC Johnson partnered with leading weather source AccuWeather to create the SC Johnson Pest Index, a new, first of its kind tool that tells users what bugs to expect based on weather in their area. The SC Johnson Pest Index is a science-driven, adaptive Index to help families prepare for common summertime pests. The Pest Index can be used via desktop or mobile by going to the AccuWeather app, making it the perfect tool to help plan summer activities and the pest control products you need.  

On July 15^th, Dr. Tom Mascari will be available for interviews to discuss common summer pests in your area, how viewers can help protect themselves and their families from pests, including how to use the new Pest Index to help you plan for outdoor or indoor activities. He’ll be joined by television talk show host Tamron Hall who will discuss how she prepares ahead to avoid pests throughout the summer.

How The SC Johnson Pest Index Works: 

• Just like you check the weather while planning summer activities, consumers will soon have a tool to prepare for any type of pest situation with the SC Johnson Pest Index via AccuWeather.
• The Pest Index will evaluate local factors like weather, time of year and pest behavior to provide an indicator of indoor and outdoor pest levels in your area from low, moderate to high.  
• Based on the Pest Index they’ll be able to plan their pest control needs to help protect against indoor or outdoor pests.

MORE ABOUT DR. TOM MASCARI: Dr. Tom Mascari a bug expert and entomologist at SC Johnson. Tom has a Ph.D. in Medical & Veterinary Entomology from Louisiana State University and a M.Sc. in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
