Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Bayer

Calling all rocket scientists! The 3rd annual Bayer Alka-Rocket Challenge will be held at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Orlando, Fla. on December 12. University teams will be competing for a $30,000 grand prize and to become a Guinness World Record holder for the highest launch of an alka-rocket.

An alka-rocket is a model rocket often built using a 35mm film canister and propelled by the chemical reaction that occurs when effervescent tablets are mixed with water. Bayer created the Challenge to highlight the country’s need for more scientists, engineers and innovators and highlight the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. Last year, the Brigham Young University team won the grand prize and world record title when their rocket reached a height of 883 feet

On November 21, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Bayer, Ray Kerins, will be available to discuss the Alka-Rocket Challenge, announce the top five finalists, and the importance of STEM education.
